Savory Lamb Shanks

These savory lamb shanks is a great edition to your dinner. It does need a little bit of time, so you might want to do this on your day off or if you do not mind eating late at night.

Savory Lamb Shanks Recipe:

  1. Combine 1/4 cup flour, garlic salt, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Coat the lamb shanks with seasoned flour.
  3. Melt butter in a large skillet.
  4. Add the meat.
  5. Brown slowly, turning frequently.
  6. Remove the meat.
  7. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of the seasoned flour mixture in the skillet.
  8. Mix until smooth.
  9. Gradually add 1 cup of beef stock, stirring vigorously over moderate heat.
  10. Continue to cook until thickened, stirring constantly.
  11. Add browned meat.
  12. Cover and simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.
  13. If the gravy becomes too thick during cooking, thin with some of the remaining beef stock.
  14. Remove meat from the skillet and skim off all fat from the gravy.
  15. Blend together 1 tablespoon flour and sour cream.
  16. Add remaining consommé and stir until smooth.
  17. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  18. Add meat and peas and heat.
  19. If desired, serve over hot buttered noodles.

  • Few grains pepper.
  • 1/4 cup butter.
  • 4 lamb shanks, cut in thirds.
  • 2 cups concentrated beef stock or 2 bouillon cubes dissolved in 2 cups hot water.
  • 1 cup sour cream.
  • 1 cup cooked peas.
