1. Sift the following ingredients together: flour, soda, baking powder, cloves, cinnamon and allspice

2. Cream the butter and the sugar together

3. Beat in the 2eggs and keep beating until the mixture is light and fluffy

4. Stir in the vanilla extract and the strained pumpkin

5. Add the sifted ingredients alternately with the sour cream to make a smooth batter

6. Pour the batter into 2 buttered and floured layer cake pans

7. Bake the cakes in a moderate oven of 350F (180C) until it tests done
