<p>1. Peel and finely chop the onion</p>
<p>2. Cut the stalk off the pepper, remove the seeds and finely chop it</p>
<p>3. Melt the fat in a large pan</p>
<p>4. Fry the onion until it begins to color</p>
<p>5. Add the beef and continue frying until it is well browned</p>
<p>6. Add the following ingredients to the pan: tomatoes, beans, peas and the chopped pepper</p>
<p>7. Stir in the stock and mix thoroughly</p>
<p>8. Season to taste with chili powder and a little salt</p>
<p>9. Cover the pan and let it simmer for 30minutes</p>
<p>10. Allow the contents to cool then put them through a liquidizer</p>
<p>11. Just before serving, re-heat the soup</p>
<p>12. Garnish the soup with the shredded lettuce</p>
<h2>List of ingredients required:</h2>
<p>1 large onion<br />
Salt<br />
14 oz tinned or dried red kidney beans<br />
1/4 pint stock<br />
1/2 lb minced beef<br />
2 oz butter<br />
1 green or red pepper, chopped<br />
14 to 16 oz tinned tomatoes<br />
8 oz tinned or dried thick peas<br />
1/2 level teaspoon of chili powder<br />
Lettuce (garnish)</p>
