<p>1. Grease a 900g loaf tin</p>
<p>2. Cream the sugar and butter together until the mixture is light</p>
<p>3. Beat in the egg, the rind and juice of the lemon</p>
<p>4. Sieve the flour, baking powder and the salt together</p>
<p>5. Alternately beat the sieved ingredients and the milk into the mixture in several additions</p>
<p>6. Add the dates and walnuts</p>
<p>7. Pour the mixture into the loaf tin</p>
<p>8. Bake the mixture in the preheated oven for about 50 to 60minutes</p>
<p>9. Leave the loaf in the tin for about a minute then turn it out and serve</p>
<h2>List of ingredients required:</h2>
<p>(makes one 2lb (900g) loaf)</p>
<p>2 oz (50g) butter<br />
1 large egg<br />
Grated rind and juice of 1/2 lemon<br />
6 oz (175g) plain flour<br />
Pinch of salt<br />
2 oz (50g) light brown sugar<br />
115ml milk<br />
3 oz (75g) dates, stoned and chopped<br />
3 oz (75g) walnuts, chopped<br />
1 level tablespoon baking powder</p>
<p>The oven should be preheated at a temperature of 350F (180C)</p>
