Chocolate-covered dates Recipe:

1. Make a small slit in each date using a sharp pointed knife, and remove the stones

2. Fill the cavities with the almond paste and close the dates again

3. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pan of hot water and with the aid of two forks, dip the dates in the chocolate

4. Coat evenly and brush off any surplus on the edge of the bowl

5. Dry the chocolate covered dates on sheets of waxed or non-stick paper

6. Just before set, decorate the dates with well-drained cocktail cherries cut in half or with pieces of shelled walnuts

Almond paste
1 box dates
Shelled walnuts
4 oz (50g) plain chocolate
Cocktail cherries (decoration)
